Wedding Photographer of the Year 2012 (SW England) & National Wedding Photographer of the Year Finalist
Photographing weddings across the UK
Five years ago, Helen, my other half bought me a camera for my birthday. I had no idea what an impact that decision would make on my and my families life! 6 weeks after getting my first camera I was so convinced that this was the career for me that I closed my small recruitment company and went for it. This was quite a decision as Helen was 7 months pregnant!
Wedding photography seemed the right thing for me from the very beginning. It encompasses a lot of other photographic disciplines in one day. There is portraiture, photojournalism, product, landscape and even some fashion all in one day. My approach for every wedding is to be like a guest with a camera. I never take over the day or steal the bride and groom for too long. About 80-90% of my images are completely natural. Images of friends laughing, the first kiss, speeches, first dance, etc. all happen with no interjection from me and I try and capture them as best as possible. Of course I am happy to capture a few family formals but I usually wait until the champagne has been poured and people are a bit more relaxed.
After 5 years in the industry, I was delighted to be named Wedding Photographer of the Year for SW England by the Wedding Industry Awards. I am also a finalist in the national category to be announced in January 2012. I have won other awards but what makes this so special is that it was voted for by previous couples. 49 of them took the time to go and not only vote but comment about my work. I was blown away when I found out and am still delighted.
