frequently asked questions

Is your style of photography reportage (less formal) or traditional (posed)?

My photography style is a mixture of reportage and traditional photography, with the majority of shots being un-posed natural images of you and your friends / family enjoying your big day.  However, if you would like more or less of either style I am more than happy to oblige. It is your day after all.

How long after the wedding will I see my photographs?

Within a week of the wedding, I will post a few selected images onto my blog. This is a great way for you and your friends and family to have a sneak preview of your photographs. I can also post these onto facebook and tag you.

On your return from honeymoon the full collection of your images will be ready for you to view at a Champagne viewing at my studio in Richmond.

What is an engagement shoot?

An engagement shoot is like a practice for the couple shots. Many people feel initially awkward being photographed and it helps you to relax and for me to work out what style of photographs suit you. Most people don’t like being photographed because they believe they’re not photogenic. Once you’ve seen the images from the engagement shoot you will see that this isn’t the case. It’s just a matter of finding out what suits you best.

How does the album design process work?

Will you travel to our wedding and do you charge extra?

I travel both nationally in the UK and internationally for weddings. In the UK, travel is charged at 40p per mile in excess of 100 miles from SW London. For weddings more than a 3-hour drive from SW London, accommodation for me (and my second photographer if applicable) is expected. For weddings where a flight is necessary, expenses include taxis to/from the airport, the flight, accommodation and food.

What happens if I’m sick on the day?

In all my time photographing weddings, I’ve never had to cancel due to ill health (I’m touching lots of wood as I write this). However should the unthinkable happen, I have a strong network of photographers with whom I have worked previously and firmly recommend. I will always do my utmost to make sure you are not let down.

What if it rains?

With the tendency for rain in the UK, my policy is to plan for rain and anything else is a bonus. I always bring with me Edwardian style, white, teardrop umbrellas which look lovely in photographs. So if the rain isn’t too heavy we can still get some lovely images. However, if it chucks it down all day, then I am more than happy to offer you a free re-shoot of the couple shots when the weather is better.

Are you insured?

Yes. I have both public liability insurance for £2m and £25k indemnity insurance.

Do you shoot on film or digital?

I shoot on digital in either JPEG or RAW on Canon 5D Mark 2 cameras using only Canon ‘L’ Series lenses.

Do you work with an assistant?

For the majority of weddings I tend to work alone (the most common feedback I receive is that I never stop!) However for larger ceremonies or if you would simply like to ensure you get every angle covered, you can book a second photographer for c40% uplift.

Do you amend any of the images?

How many pictures will you take on average?

The number of pictures that I take varies depending on the amount of people, the venue, the lighting, etc. Generally you will receive at least 5-600 images.

Who will have the copyright of the pictures?

Every photographer retains the copyright of the images. However, all my packages include all the images on disc, edited and in high resolution with print licence. In other words, you can print the images from the disc as many times as you like.

Should I feed you?

This is totally up to you (although it is nice especially on longer weddings). If you do decide not to feed me, please let me know in advance so that I can bring my own food.

Do you offer a gift list service?

Yes. If you would like to ask your friends and family to contribute towards the cost of your photography I can take payments (including by credit / debit card) of £50 upwards.  We will send all of these people a physical gift voucher they can give to you.

What if I don’t like having my photo taken?

Most people dislike having their photo taken because they’ve not had professional photographs taken before and believe they are not photogenic. This is why one reason why a pre-wedding shoot is useful as it shows you otherwise. However, if you just genuinely dislike having your photograph taken and would prefer to have more of your friends and family enjoying themselves instead and less couple / group shots then this is fine with me. Just let me know.
